Scarborough

Meet on Royal Albert Drive (an extension of Marine Drive) near where it turns inland at Peasholm Gap. Weather permitting, we can have a circular walk through Peasholm Park then back round the Castle.

Annual General Meeting

The 2023 AGM of the Hull Natural History Society will be held in Teaching Room 1 at the Brynmor Jones Library, University of Hull. The AGM will be followed by a few presentations.

Bempton & Hoddy Cows Lane

A circular walk down Hoddy Cows Lane then along the cliffs to Bempton. Meet on Main Street in Buckton where there should be some verge parking.

Laxton

A walk around the village and surrounding area taking in Saltmarshe on the Humber and possibly Saltmarsh Delph nature reserve. Meet in Back Street, Laxton.

City Nature Challenge

Hull is taking part in the challenge which involves recording plants and animals over a four-day period within the city boundary. It is open to individuals and groups and there are three organised public events on April 29th. Contact Africa or the Secretary for details.

Jillywoods

A chance to see some spring flowers. Meet at the north end of Wood Hill Way near Lazaats.

Dumble Farm, Arram

This is a farm where the owners are trying to encourage wildlife. Our help has been requested to establish what is there. On the OS map it is shown as White House Farm. Park on the grass outside the farm near the brick-arched barn.

St Andrew's Quay

Meet at the road alongside the Makro store. There is usually parking here or in the main car park.

Leven Canal to Hull Bridge

A walk along the Leven Canal to the River Hull then via Pulfin to Hull Bridge.
Plan changed on the day and a walk was taken along the river from Hull Bridge to Pulfin and the lake at Eske.

Calvert Lane

An exploration of the route of the old railway running west from Calvert Lane. Meet in Spring Bank West near the junction with Falsgrave Grove.

Leconfield weekend

We have exclusive access to the Defence School of Transport training area at Leconfield from 18:00 on the Friday until 16:00 on the Sunday.

Spring Bank Cemeteries

A visit to Western and General Cemeteries. Meet at the gatehouse on the western side of Chanterlands Avenue. There is street parking along Chanterlands Avenue.

Ashberry Pastures

A circular walk round Rievaulx and Ashberry Wood. Meet in the Rievaulx Abbey car park. There is a charge for parking unless you are a member of English Heritage.

Priory Sidings

The last vestige of the extensive Priory Yard sidings. Meet at the eastern end of Henry Boot Way. The parking is officially limited to two hours but this should give us time to look round. We can go back to Priory Park and Ride if necessary to extend the trip.

Keyingham Quarry

A look at another part of this privately-owned nature reserve cum quarry. The entrance is a short way down the metalled lane that leads to the sewage works, on the left. If the gates are open, drive in, otherwise wait in the lane.

No Meeting

Hornsea Mere

YNU VC61 meeting. Assemble initially at the north end of Wassand Road. If you wish to visit the bird hide and wetland area there will be a charge of £5. Otherwise the route will be along public footpaths. There will be a reporting meeting and refreshments at 16:00 in the education room of Wassand Hall.

Pocklington Canal

A walk along the canal and a visit to White Carr Meadow, a SSSI adjoining the canal. Meet at Coats Bridge where there is some parking.

Raindale, Newton-on-Rawcliffe

A circular walk of about four miles. This is a joint meeting with Ryedale Naturalists. Park on the verge on Stape Road near Taylor Hill Farm.

Meet in West Park. We will walk round the stadium to reach the triangle of land between the railways.

Eastrington Ponds & Hive

Note the changed meeting time, We are visiting the ponds in the morning then moving on to Hive to survey some privately-owned grassland that may be of interest. Meet in the reserve car park and bring a packed lunch.

Bring your bucket and spade to go rock-pool dipping at Filey Brigg. Meet in Filey Brigg car park which will be charging at this time of year.

Talk on the High Atlas Mountains

An illustrated talk by Jackie Guthrie on her trip to the High Atlas Mountains, describing the plants and animals which are able to live in this extreme environment. It will be held in Teaching Room 4 at the Brynmor Jones Library, University of Hull.

Tophill Low

Hopefully the reserve will have re-opened by the date of the meeting. There is an entry fee of £2.50 for over 65s.
