Messingham

Entrance to the reserve is via an inconspicuous gated track off the B1400 just before the power lines cross the road. Meet in the car park.

Beverley Parks

Meet at the small car park off Park Lane.

Keyingham Quarry

Another look at this interesting privately-owned nature reserve cum quarry. Initial meeting point is before the gate on the track down to the quarry.

Sinnington

Meet on the village green. This is a joint meeting with Ryedale Naturalists.

Meet outside Heron Foods. There is some parking here or on Spring Bank West on the other side of Calvert Lane.

Millennium Meadow, Molescroft

We are undertaking a survey for a Molescroft residents group so we need our best botanists! Meet in the car park at the end of Thurlow Avenue.

Foredyke Green & Wilberforce Wood

Meet in the lay-by on Kesteven Way besides Foredyke Green.

Benningholme

A visit to the botanically rich verges near Ings Cottages. Meet at Lambwath Bridge.

Wayrham Dale

Meet in the car park off the A166 for an exploration of chalk grassland in Wayrham Dale and other access land.

A weekend visit to the Norfolk Breckland, based in Thetford.

Knettishall Heath

Meet in the free car park at Knettishall Heath, about 6 miles east of Thetford. Managed by Suffolk Wildlife Trust, this is a diverse mosaic of habitats with woodland and riverside meadows, as well as large areas of heath.
In the evening we may have a bat walk along the river in Thetford.

Weeting Heath

Meet initially at Weeting Heath, about 10 miles north-west of Thetford. This is the best site in the country to watch Stone Curlew. There is an admission charge of £4.50
We will then move on to RSPB Lakenheath Fen, MR TL 719 863, which is 3 miles further west. There is an admission charge of £4.00 for non-members.
In the evening we will meet up for a meal in a hostelry in Thetford, probably the Black Horse but to be confirmed.

Barnham Cross Common

Meet at Barnham Cross Common, 1 mile south-west of Thetford. This is an SSSI owned by Thetford Council with areas of calcareous and acidic Breckland grassland heath. We should have the benefit of a local guide to show us some of the specialities.

The Deep to North Bridge

A wander up and down the river. Meet at Tower Street car park which should be free after 6.00 pm

Leven Carrs

Yorkshire Naturalists Union VC61 excursion. Meet at the junction of Sandholme Lane and Carr Lane, Leven. For full details see the YNU website or contact Africa.

Beverley tree walk

A guided tour of the interesting trees in Beverley by our resident expert John Killingbeck. Meet and park in Saturday Market.

Reighton Gap

Meet at the end of Sands Road.

Barmston Drain and Figham

If time permits, a circular walk along Barmston Drain to Figham then back via the River Hull. Meet on Plaxton Bridge Road.

Leconfield Castle

An investigation of the site of the old castle. Meet opposite the end of Arram Road. There is some parking on the main road nearby or park at the east end of Harthill Avenue and walk through the pedestrian passage.

Wawne Show

Wawne is holding its village show again this year. We are organising a stand to promote the Society so we will need volunteers to man it. We also need some ideas for displays and activities that will interest people in natural history. More details nearer the time but reserve the date.

Spring Bank Cemeteries

A visit to Western and General Cemeteries. Meet at the gatehouse on the western side of Chanterlands Avenue. There is street parking along Chanterlands Avenue.

Burton Bushes

Burton Bushes is always interesting but we will be looking in particular for Purple Hairstreak butterflies. Meet at the gated entrance to the Westwood opposite the racecourse.

Sancton

Meet at the end of High Street in the village.

Victoria Dock

Meet at the end of Corinthian Way for a walk along the foreshore to Half-tide Basin.

North Cave Wetlands

The visit to Heslington Tilmire has had to be cancelled as the wetland habitat there has dried out! We are meeting instead at North Cave Wetlands in the car park on Dryham Lane.

Brickyard Lane

A walk down the lane and along the foreshore towards Long Plantation. Meet at the north end of Brickyard Lane.

Ennerdale circuit

A walk up the banks of the River Hull to Kingswood Bridge and back. Meet in Ennerdale Leisure Centre car park.

Nut Wood

Meet at the stile on the bend of Riplingham Road. Park on the opposite side if necessary.

Hayburn Wyke, Scarborough

A walk along the old railway to Hayburn Wyke National Trust nature reserve. Park down Hood Lane just before the railway bridge.

Planning Meeting for 2023

Spurn

Meet at the car park opposite the new Yorkshire Wildlife Trust visitor centre. The car park is free to YWT members if you display your membership card in the windscreen.

Withernsea
