Annual General Meeting (by Zoom)

We were required by our Constitution to hold an AGM and this was conducted via video-conferencing.

Wheldrake Ings

Meet in the car park at Bank Island next to the main road. A walk connecting the hides along the Derwent mainly looking at waders and wildfowl. It can be very muddy most years.

Allerthorpe

Meet on the main street between the church and the pub. A circular walk, taking in the YWT reserve.

Burton Bushes

Meet at the Westwood. There is roadside parking opposite the main racecourse building.

Raincliffe Wood

In view of the poor weather forecast this meeting has been re-scheduled for Sunday rather than the originally planned Saturday.
Meet at the car park. Travelling from East Ayton, this is found shortly after turning right at the top end of Forge Valley, heading toward Scalby.

Gleneagles Aquagreen

A visit to the first of the seven Aquagreen sites which we are surveying this year.

Loglands

Second part of the evening, a visit to the old Hull tree nursery, now a nature reserve.

Welton Top

Meet on Wauldby Road just south of the stables at the gated entrance to the public footpath.

YNU VC61 field meeting Flamborough

Meet in the lighthouse car park. In accordance with current COVID-19 regulations, the normally following indoor tea and reporting meeting will be conducted via Zoom.

Wimpey Fields Aquagreen

The second Aquagreen is potentially more interesting and backs on to the Hornsea Rail Trail so there should be plenty to look at. Meet on Howdale Road.

Priory Road

Meet at the lay-by, north of the police station for a walk round the fields.

Willerby Carr Culvert Aquagreen

This Aquagreen was created by exposing Willerby Carr Dike which had previously run through a culvert . A community wood has been planted. Meet at the entrance on Coronation Road North.

Scoardale

One of the many areas of Access Land near Millington with hopefully a good selection of chalk grassland species. Meet at Millington Wood car park.

Bristol Road Aquagreen

There is probably not a lot to see here so we will move on to Calvert Lane later. Meet initially in the north-eastern section of Bristol Road.

Shropshire weekend - Ludlow

We intend to meet just after lunch at Ludlow Castle entrance. We will to do the “Bread Walk”, starting at the castle entrance, which may take in the Whitcliffe Common reserve. There is the option to look round the castle for those arriving early- admission details on line, and you can get lunch there if you wish. Evening option to meet up for food and drink.

We will visit an area of wet and dry heath and marsh (Catherton Common) and valley mire (Cramer Gutter). Meet 10am on the roadside at SO 643 784. Packed lunch today with evening meal in Ludlow.

On Sunday morning we will visit Stretton Westwood Quarry, before returning home.

Risby

Meet at the lay-by next to the wood on Dunflat Road, just east of the entrance to the fishing ponds.

Barbara Robson Aquagreen

Although this is fairly large, it is mainly playing fields so we may also walk south down the Hornsea Rail Trail which passes through the site. Meet in the Sutton village car park.

Farndale

This is a joint meeting with Ryedale Naturalists.
Park at the old roadside quarry at the top of the hill above Park Farm. Travelling from Lowna or Gillamoor, north on Daleside Road, it is on the left just before the track to Harland Farm.

Keyingham Quarry

We have obtained permission to visit Keyingham Sand and Gravel Quarry which promises to be of interest from all sorts of aspects, not just natural history. The owner has agreed to spend time showing us round so please make an effort to attend.

Lockington

Meet near the church.

Lambwath Stream Aquagreen

Despite the name don't expect running water. If there is not a lot to be seen we can move on to the demolished housing area nearby or the woodland off Bellfield Avenue. Meet at the Ings Playing Field car park off Ings Road.

Aldbrough

Park just before the road goes over the cliff. A circular walk along the coast to Cowden. There is a possibility of looking at Cowden itself if it is in Yorkshire Wildlife Trust ownership by then.

Broomfleet Washlands

Meet at the junction of Common Road and Carr Lane to walk down to the site, or there is limited parking on the site itself for those with strong suspension on their vehicle.

Noddle Hill Green Squares Aquagreens

We will look at this tiny Aquagreen first. Meet initially in Kestrel Avenue near Kingfisher Close.

We will then move on to complete the evening at the near-by Noddle Hill Local Nature Reserve.

Leven Canal

Hedon Road, Hull

Meet at the junction of Lee Smith Street and the old Hedon Road, A1033. There is the Sportsman pub at the corner of this junction. We will walk east and explore towards the cemetery and beyond, depending on time.

Tickton

Meet on Main Street in Tickton for a circular walk down Carr Lane to Weel Road and back via Hull Bridge.

Skeffling

A variation on our usual trip to Spurn. Meet at the car park at the end of Humber Lane for a walk east towards Kilnsea.

Planning Meeting for 2022

The meeting to plan our programme for 2022 will be held in teaching room four in the Brynmor Jones Library at the University of Hull. The University still requires the use of masks in indoor spaces.

Skipwith Common

Hopefully there will be some fungi to see. Meet in the King Rudding Lane car park.

A circular walk to Hornsea Mere then back along Southorpe Road. Meet in Wassand Road.

Filey Brigg

Meet at the entrance to the Country Park. A walk either to the Brigg, around the cliff tops and/or south along the beach. Fish and chip restaurant for lunch.
